CONTINUOUS DRYING SYSTEMS (CDS)
Natural Gas Direct-Fired Heating System Example
Continuous Counter Flow (CCF) Systems
The Wellons Continuous Counter Flow (CCF) system is a double track chamber with three separate sections along the length, isolated by baffles. The main drying section (MD) is flanked by two energy recovery sections (ER). The majority of the lumber drying occurs in the MD section. The ER sections heat the lumber entering the chamber and condition the load leaving.
The lumber is automatically advanced by a set of hydraulic pushers based on an established push rate with adjustments based on monitored moisture content using TRUMARK-Evo. The packages are loaded and unloaded at both ends of the chamber.
The ER sections enhance the efficiency of the CCF system by capturing the heat energy from the exiting load and preheating the incoming load before it enters the drying section (MD). The drying quality improves by allowing the exiting load to condition and equalize before leaving the system.
Continuous Parallel Flow (CPF) Systems
The Wellons Continuous Parallel Flow (CPF) system is a double or single track chamber with three separate sections along the length of the kiln, isolated by baffles. The main drying section (MD) is flanked by a Preheat Section (PS) and an Equalizing & Cooling Section (EC).
Each track of lumber is automatically advanced by a set of hydraulic pushers, based on an established push rate, moving in the same direction in the chamber. Push rate is adjusted based on monitored moisture content. The packages are loaded on the Green End and exit on the Dry End, ready for the planer.
The PS section increases the efficiency of the CPF system by controlling the removal of free moisture from the load, before it goes into a drying schedule in the main drying section (MD). The EC section controls the equalizing and cooling of the lumber before it exits the chamber based on the measured content measured by TRUMARK-Evo. The drying quality improves by allowing the exiting load to equalize and cool before leaving the system.
Two (2) Thermal Oil Heated CCF Kilns
Reduced energy drying costs (per board foot)
Improved grade recovery using TRUMARK-Evo moisture metering system
Lower standard deviation on target MC using TRUMARK-Evo Moisture Meter System.
Optimal utilization; always 100% full
Improved energy efficiencies
Wellons CMZ control system with WINKILN Evolution software
Custom (MD) heat systems with natural preheat/equalizing sections (CCF), or controlled preheat/equalizing availability (CPF)
Graduated-velocity fan systems
Aluminum structure and stainless steel internally clad housing
Extra heavy duty kiln carts
Optional single point venting system
Single Point Exhaust & Supply Vent Option
Wellons designs, fabricates, and installs single point venting systems for environmental compliance and monitoring. We have experience installing fan and ducting systems that replace the multiple roof vent systems with a single point exhaust vent and single point supply vent from the drying system.
Wellons can upgrade an existing batch kiln operation by applying the cutting-edge technology we build into every new Wellons (CCF) or (CPF) system. Such a remodel might include computerized multizone controls, heat systems, fan systems, housing and roof remodels or some combination of these. Wellons can add either (ER) sections or (PS/EC) sections to convert an existing batch kiln to continuous flow.
Engineering Installation Service
Wellons offers engineering and installation service for a complete project. This includes drying system studies, foundations, building construction, control and computer room, heat systems, fan systems, computer system, controls and i/o panels, steam main and condensate systems, start-up services, operator training and field service for maintenance and troubleshooting.
